Opportunity and investment
Through our investment, Bain Capital identified several key growth opportunities:
- Leadership in a growing market: We furthered Buildertrend’s early leadership in the developing residential construction management software (RMS) market by backing acquisitions of CoConstruct and CBUSA. These investments strengthened market share, built scale, elevated Buildertrend’s financial profile, and extended its platform into high-value adjacencies such as materials and purchasing.
- Customer segmentation and retention: Buildertrend had a large customer base comprised of smaller contractors with high churn. We worked with Buildertrend to realign the commercial strategy around high-value ideal customer profile (ICP) segments, driving greater loyalty and revenue. By introducing annual contracts, implementing size-based pricing, and redesigning sales compensation to reinforce strategic objectives, we helped drive long-term value.
- System of record: Through thoughtful acquisition integration, we helped Buildertrend reshape its go-to-market approach and position itself as the system of record by standardizing scheduling and workflows, handling payments, purchase and change orders, delivering data analytics, and improving customer communication, materials procurement, and contractor services.
